Tunisia seems to have blocked access to Facebook

Tunisia seems to have blocked access to Facebook today. Some Tunisian bloggers in the country report being unable to access the popular social networking website and took several screenshots of the fake 404 blockpage.

Tunisia is also blocking access, permanently, to both popular video-sharing websites, Youtube (since Since November 2nd, 2007) and Dailymotion (since Septembre 3rd, 2007)

that’s one more step of killing internet freedom as same as many other freedoms and this will contiue if no reacts against this tirany. All computer geeks should cooperate to put and end to this opression. If no one reacts it won’t stop and internet will be useless in tunisia.

I seem to have the same problems with Facebook in Tunisia. Today 22/08/08 I was able to login in the morning then by midday I got the 404 blockage page… Does anyone know why I would be able to login and then not? Did Tunisia really block Facebook?

I too was able to access Facebook this morning (22-8-2008). I accessed it around 10am, made a few updates, and then around 4:30pm I couldn’t access it anymore. I do not use Facebook often, but know plenty of people who do. Is this block going to be permanent?

    Hi

It is true that they blocked facebook.
Reason is simple, to keep the country at ease and kalm, caus there is a lot of info that can be found on facebook regarding Tunisia.
Ok this is discusable but not to forget is that facebook is a social thing, not political, so mayby people from facebook schould consider banning stuf that can cause harm to the contry. it’s true that if donne so there is no freedom of spech anymore ???? Dilema.Annyway there is a solution, and that is to instal ANCHOR FREE, ok you’ll have only acces for 3G for free, but still you can acces it.

This really stinks… I thought Tunisia was the most democratic in the Arab world and I find that they r blockin facebook and youtube… what the? Well does anyone know what 3G stands for?
Also how can one unlock the new Iphone in Tunisia? any suggestions?

Oh well, nothing surprises me anymore in this “democratic” country. Did they not think about us foreigners trying to keep in touch with family & friends at home and all tunisians all over the world doing the same. Or is that what they don’t want – open comminication. Wonder how long it’ll be ’til they ban internet, satellite tv and tourism too …
