The US-based Nigerian blogger, Jonathan Elendu, who blogs at Elendu Reports [1], is being held without charge, since Saturday October 18th, by the State Security Service (SSS). Elendu was arrested upon arrival [2] at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Airport, Abuja, from the United States. He is now being investigated for “acts of sedition” [3].
Elendu blogs about corruption, political affairs and the ecological disaster unfolding in the oil-rich Niger Delta [4]. He was reportedly arrested [5] to answer questions related to alleged ”national security issues [6]”. According to RSF [7] he is accused of contributing to the SaharaReporters website [8], described by the Nigerian authorities as “guerrilla journalism.”
