Ahmed Abdel Kawi , meeting all the necessary conditions to use his university housing, so, the decision of his exclusion was strongly condemned by the Arabic Network for Human Rights Information [1]‘s Legal Aid Unit for Freedom of Expression, which issued a statement saying:
The civil activities of the blogger, student Ahmed Abdel Kawi, should not interfere with his right to student accommodation. Every citizen has the right to express his opinions and ideas, as guaranteed by the Egyptian constitution and international conventions.
Abdel Kawi , whose family live in the governorate of Fayoum * 90km outside Cairo*, writes in a blog titled akeed fi masr [2] (For sure in Egypt). He blogged saying:
I am a one who has a right and i am not intending to give it up..i already tries all possible ways to get my right back, but they insisted and told me “we will not insert your name at the lists of students eligible for university housing.
The young blogger is a third year journalism student in the faculty of mass communication at Cairo University. He obtained a B+ in the first two years of his study at the university and had lived the whole time in university housing. Abdel Kawi used to blog about his life in universty, his friends, among them was the ex-detained blogger Mohammad Refaat [3], and about freedom of expression in general.
